Explore the delights of the Vendee region

Take a holiday in Vendee and explore the beautiful coastline with its natural land- and seascapes where the dunes and marshes smell deliciously of the sea.

The Vendée boasts 240 km of protected coastline stretching southwards from the bay of Bourgneuf and the island of Noirmoutier – miles and miles of long soft sandy beaches and rugged coastline. Just a few miles out to sea is the unspoiled and protected island of Yeu.

With 140 km of sandy beaches and 450 km of cycle paths, the Vendee provides tourists with many open-air activities including water sports, fishing or hiking in the great outdoors.

The two main fishing ports are located in the resorts of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie and Sables d’Olonne, known throughout the world for its sailing events such as the Vendée Globe.

From the Breton Vendéen marshes, wrought by both man and the sea, to the Poitevin Marsh, glittering with a thousand different hues, known as "Green Venice", the Vendée marshlands attract visitors for their elusive beauty. From Bouin to Challans the marshes are a haven for an incredible variety of exquisite wading birds (egrets and herons) that come to rest in the heart of the marshes and can be watched for hours if you have a pair of binoculars.

History enthusiasts can explore the many keeps, castles and villages in the region, and learn all about the fascinating military, artistic and even magical history that has made the Vendée what it is today.

While you are at the campsite in the Vendee, be sure to visit the historical theme park Le Puy du Fou, great entertainment for young and old.
